The Tennessee State Flag
was designed by a fellow named LeRoy Reeves of the Third
Regiment, Tennessee Infantry. The Tennessee State Flag was
officially adopted by the Tennessee State Legislature on April
17, 1905.
The Tennessee State Flag design symbolizes the geographical and
cultural heritage of the state of Tennessee. The
Tennessee State Flag also echoes the
colors of the national flag of The United States of America.
Mr. Reeves explained his
Tennessee State Flag design:
The three stars are of pure white, representing the three
grand divisions of the state. They are bound together by the
endless circle of the blue field, the symbol being three bound
together in one - an indissoluble trinity. The large field on
the Tennessee State Flag is crimson. The final blue bar
on the fly end of the Tennessee State Flag relieves the
sameness of the crimson field and prevents the Tennessee State
Flag from showing too much crimson when hanging limp.
The "three grand
divisions of the state." that Mr. Reeves refers to in his
Tennessee State Flag explanation are the three sharply
contrasting geographical divisions of the state of Tennessee.
Like many state flags, the Tennessee State Flag is red, white
and blue. The Tennessee State Flag is highly
distinguishable from other state flags. The Tennessee
State Flag just isn't like any other. |
