Kentucky's General
Assembly adopted a Kentucky State flag in 1918 but could not
agree on the final Kentucky State flag specifications for ten years. Yes, it took
ten years to reach asatisfactory Kentucky State flag agreement from all concerned.
In 1928, the General Assembly gave final approval for the
Kentucky State flag and actually incorporated a drawing of the
Kentucky State flag in the statutes.
The Kentucky State flag
was to display the state seal centered on a field of blue. The
following is an excerpt from the Kentucky State Statute
concerning the design of the Kentucky State flag.
2.030 Kentucky State flag.
(1) The official Kentucky State flag
shall be of navy blue silk, nylon, wool or cotton bunting,
or some other suitable material, with the seal of the
Commonwealth encircled by a wreath, the lower half of which
shall be goldenrod in bloom and the upper half the words
"Commonwealth of Kentucky," embroidered, printed, painted or
stamped on the center thereof. The dimensions of the
Kentucky State flag
may vary, but the length shall be one and nine-tenths (1
9/10) times the width and the diameter of the seal and
encirclement shall be approximately two-thirds (2/3) the
width of the Kentucky State flag.
