The first official Alabama State Flag, the "Secession Convention Flag", was designated by the Secession Convention on January 11, 1861. The "Secession Convention Flag" designed by a group of women from Montgomery, was flown for only one month until February 10, 1861. Damaged in a severe storm, this Alabama State flag was never to fly over Alabama again.
Often referred to as the "Republic of Alabama Flag", the next Alabama State flag displayed different scenes on each side.

rom March 4, 1861 until April, 1865 one of two Confederate National Flags was flown as the Alabama State flag.
I
n 1895, 76 years after being admitted to the Union, the Alabama Legislature authorized the "crimson cross of St. Andrew on a field of white" to be the Alabama State flag in the "Acts of Alabama." Reminiscent of the Confederate battle flag, it was designated that the crimson bars must be six inches broad and were to extend diagonally across the Alabama State flag. Because act 383 did not specify a particular format, the Alabama State flag is depicted sometimes as a square and at other times, the Alabama State flag is a rectangle.  The Alabama State flag is a great gift for anyone from Alabama.  The Alabama State flag is also big with Lynard Skynard fans.  When purchasing an Alabama State flag, be sure your Alabama State flag was American made.
